To better understand the important of Antioxidants within skincare, you first need to role of free radicals.

Free radicals are damaged molecules that are missing an important electron, and these incomplete molecules are dangerous as they damage other cells in search of their missing part. Free radicals occur when a process called oxidation happens, they need their electron to survive, and are willing to kill other healthy cells to get it.

What causes free radicals?

  • Smoking
  • Stress
  • UV light
  • Processed food
  • Pollution
  • Drugs

How do free radicals affect skin

Free radicals are a part of life, and at a very basic level they are the cause for aging. We do need them for the circle of life, but exposure to high levels can cause cancer, bone disease and scurvy.

So this is why antioxidants are important. They suppress free radicals resulting in lower risk of skin cancer and an improvement in wrinkles and again.

Antioxidants can be found in a wide range of foods including coffee, watercress, blueberries, green tea, strawberries, apples, olive oil and red wine, however, in order to ingest a consistently high level of anti aging antioxidants its better to include an internal supplement.

Skin Antioxidant provides high levels of phytonutrients and vitamin A for overall skin health and protection. Vitamin C is also a powerful antioxidant which can be used topically and internally to improve skin health.
