Top Tips for (Fake) Tanning!

Tuesday 30th May 2017

You gotta fake it till you make it!

With Summer just around the corner, everyone is looking to achieve that gorgeous sun kissed glow.
I mean, who wants to be the palest in the room, but with so many horror stories of orange streaky legs, fake tanning can seem a little scary.

That's why we have put together our tanning survival guide to help give you the best, natural looking tan (from a bottle!)

1. Preparation is key

When looking to achieve a natural tan, it is important to prepare the skin as best as possible.
In the week leading up to your tan, you need to exfoliate and moisturise as much as possible. This allows for the dry dead skins cells to be buffed away and the skin to be hydrated and moisturised. This will help to prevent the tan from going darker in dry patches of skin, and will achieve a more even coverage.

2. Do your hair removal, FIRST

Any waxing, shaving or other types of hair removal need to be done at least 24 hours prior to your tan.
This allows for any post hair removal irritation on the skin to calm down, and for the pores to tighten again. Doing any form of hair removal after a tan will reduce the longevity of the colour and could potentially result in a patchy finish.

3. Avoid putting products on your skin on the day of your tan

Moisturiser, deodorant and even perfume can all affect the way a tan will sit on your skin, so the best way to come to your appointment is straight after a shower. Tan is best applied on freshly cleansed skin without any product on it. This will ensure the tan sits evenly all over and will not react with products already on your skin.

4. Be prepared to go home braless..

Dark, loose clothing is advised to wear after a tan, and ideally to go bra less as well! Any tight clothing can cause the tan to be rubbed away which could result in a patchy finish and uneven coverage. Wearing light clothing is not advised as the guide colour in the tan can sometimes stain.

5. Don't get wet!

Most fake tans need at least 6-8 hours to develop before they can be washed off, and any contact with water In this time can affect the final colour. So avoid going out in the rain ( if you can!) and be patient! giving the tan the full length of time to develop will ensure the best depth of colour.

6. Moisturise well to make your tan last longer

Once your tanning treatment has been done, and you've washed if off after waiting at least 6-8 hours, you need to continue to moisturise your skin. This will ensure the tan looks healthy and doesn't go patchy as it fades away...
