Staying Safe In The Sun

Monday 17th July 2017

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Britain, with 2459 deaths each year in the UK alone.

It is however, highly preventable with data from Cancer research showing up to 86% of skin cancer cases were preventable.

The SPF market is constantly expanding and education about staying safe in the sun is more accessible than ever, so there is no excuse not to be protected.

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and the factor number relates to how much longer it would take your skin to burn with protection, as to without it. However, don't be fooled, High SPFs can give a false sense of security. With a higher factor, people are less likely to re apply as frequently, and may feel that they can spend longer in the sun.

Whilst it is logical to assume an SPF 30 gives double the protection of an SPF15 this is simply not the case, as it only blocks 4% more rays and contains a much greater level of potentially harmful chemicals.

For maximum effect and protection. SPF should always be

  • Applied to clean dry skin
  • Allowed to air before dressing
  • Re applied throughout the day

Three essential sunscreen elements to look for are

1. Antioxidants to help minimise UV Ray damage that penetrates sunscreen filters.

2. Chemical sunscreens absorb the radiation from UV rays, neutralising their damaging effects.

3. Reflectants such as titanium dioxide which reflect rays and scatter energy causing them to bounce off the skin.

Our Favourite Product is RAD SPF15
The first antioxidant sunscreen in the world, formulated with a combination of antioxidant vitamins, reflectant and low chemical sunscreens. It is safe, superior sun protection that is even suitable for babies.
