A New Way To Fight Pigmentation

Saturday 7th July 2018

This week we have a question and answer session from Environ, helping us to understand their new approach to treating pigmentation.

Q: What causes pigmentation and the formation of dark spots?

A: Melanin is a pigment that determines skin colour. The more melanin you have, the darker your skin tone, and vice versa. Specialised cells, called melanocytes, are responsible for producing melanin. Hormonal changes, sun exposure, and certain medications can result in excess melanin production, which causes hyperpigmentation.

Q: How does Environ's new Focus Care™ Radiance+ Range help target and prevent pigmentation and the formation of dark spots?

A: Pigmentation is one of the most difficult skincare concerns to target successfully. "There are many important factors that need to be addressed, and no one magic ingredient can do it all", explains Dr Des Fernandes, world renowned Plastic Surgeon and the Founder and Scientific Director of Environ Skin Care. "The Focus Care™ Radiance+ Range is Environ's most targeted approach to even-toned and radiant-looking skin. It targets the root causes of skin discolouration, dark spots, and uneven skin tone to reveal a more even-toned and radiant complexion. It is more of a real fix, as opposed to a quick fix."

Q: What is the Mela-Smart System™?

A: Environ's revolutionary 3-step Mela-Smart System™ is comprised of 4 innovative products that work together to help inhibit the 6 complex steps involved in the formation of hyperpigmentation.

Q: Should the Focus Care™ Radiance+ Range be used in conjunction with other Environ products?

A: Yes. It's advised that the Focus Care™ Radiance+ Range be used twice daily, together with Environ's Vitamin STEP-UP SYSTEM™ and a broad-spectrum SPF 15 sunscreen. For optimal results, include use of either the Cosmetic Focus- CIT®, Cosmetic Roll-CIT®, Cosmetic Gold Roll-CIT® or the new Focus Care™ Skin Tech+ DF Mobile Skincare Device in your skincare routine.

Q: How long should Environ's Vitamin STEP-UP SYSTEM™ be used for before incorporating the Focus Care™ Radiance+ Range?

A: The Vitamin STEP-UP SYSTEM™ should be used for at least 30 days before starting on the Focus Care™ Radiance+ range. This will allow for the vitamin A deficiency to be addressed, while normalising the skin's function and preparing it for the addition of the intelligent ingredient combinations contained in the Focus Care™ Radiance+ Range.

Q: Can I still go out in the sun while using the Focus Care™ Radiance+ Range? Is it safe to use during the summer months?

A: Yes, the Radiance+ Range can be used throughout the year. That said, it's vital that you wear a broad-spectrum SPF 15 sunscreen daily. If you're spending time outdoors, it's also advised that you wear a wide-brimmed sun hat and large-framed sunglasses. Limit sun exposure by seeking shade where possible, and cover up with clothing or an umbrella.

Q: Can the Focus Care™ Radiance+ Range be used by all skin types and tones?

A: Yes. The full range of products has been successfully trialled on all genders, skin types, and tones.

Q: How long before I can expect to see visible results?

A: Results will vary from person to person, and are dependent on the pigmentation concern area. That said, most pigmentation sufferers can expect to start seeing improvements fairly soon after incorporating the Focus Care™ Radiance+ Range into their daily vitamin A skincare routine. In some instances, darkening may occur before noticeable improvements are visible. Please note that this is not a cause for concern.

The best way to target pigmentation is to prevent it. "Keep your skin rich in vitamin A because this is the most effective way to minimise your chances of getting pigmentation. Understand that pigmentation comes about as a result of a slow process; reversing the 'damage' will take time," says Dr Des Fernandes, Founder and Scientific Director of Environ Skin Care.
